How I lived through this myself which helped me to understand the solution.

A lot of people online are skeptical about online coaches so let me just tell you how I got here.

When I was 17, I became very self-aware. I started to ask myself the big questions and I had a bit of an existential crisis.

We had a lot of mental health and addiction issues in our family and I knew that if I didn't sort my shit out, I could very easily go down that path myself.

I didn't want to go on medication and I didn't want to become an alcoholic (but I was showing signs of that future).

So I set out on a mission to understand myself and get control of my mind. I wanted to be confident and happy within myself.

I self-taught meditation and began exploring self development books.

For the next 10 years I kept my personal growth mainly to myself. The environments I was in weren't really supportive of that kind of stuff so I just hid the fact I was doing it.

I got my drinking under control, I got my mental health under control and I started to achieve a lot of my goals.

I went travelling around the world, I found purpose in my life and then I had an opportunity to become a meditation teacher.

After 10+ years of personal practice I felt qualified to teach others so I did. I started running classes, workshops and courses.

Over the last 5 years I have built a coaching business and helped 300+ clients with anxiety, mental wellbeing and mindset.

Why therapy, supplements and drugs don't help you heal properly.

I don't have anything against these methods, I just don't believe they work for real healing.

These traditional approaches can provide temporary relief but rarely solve the issue.

When you outsource your healing to external solutions, you're never going to find the internal peace you want to create.

Anxiety is primarily a mental and emotional problem and it needs a suitable solution.

Why you're stuck in a loop.

When you talk about your problems all the time (therapy) or suppress your emotions (drugs) or avoid the real issues by distracting yourself with quick fixes, nothing really changes.

If you continue thinking the same thoughts and feeling the same feelings, you are going to keep doing the same actions which will lead to the same results.

If nothing changes, nothing changes.

A lot of anxiety is a learned protective mechanism from a time earlier in your life when you didn't feel safe.

This is usually happening at a subconscious level which means you probably don't even know why it's happening.

Overthinking can happen when your brain is trying to keep you "safe" from some perceived threat.

Things that threaten your identity, your beliefs and your sense of self can trigger this overthinking and anxiety.

The neuroscience that explains it all.

Now I'm making some pretty big claims here but let me explain the neuroscience that backs this up.

There's a field of study called psychoneuroimmunology. It looks at how thoughts and emotions impact the immune system and the nervous system.

When you have fearful or anxious thoughts, they send electrochemical signals to the body that signal danger.

These neurotransmitters are working in connection with neuropeptides that create hormones.

Anxious, negative, fear-based thoughts = cortisol and adrenaline.

Safe, positive, faith-based thoughts = oxytocin and serotonin.

Cortisol and adrenaline will put you into fight or flight mode.

Oxytocin and serotonin will put you into rest and digest mode.

So your thoughts (and deeper beliefs) are literally creating the experience you're having in your body.

I always say to the people I work with, when you're trying to heal, it's not just about doing the mind work or the body work, it's about doing both.

You can do all the nervous system healing you want but if your brain is still telling you the story that something is wrong, you're gonna go back to fear about the experience.

The anxious thoughts and worrying will send signals to the body that it's under threat again.

When the body has a physical symptom it will send signals back to the brain and now the brain is having proof or evidence that something is "wrong".

The vicious loop continues.

Now it's also worth looking at what's actually happening in the brain and why.

When you're triggered into anxiety, overthinking or emotional reactivity, you can't think clearly.

It's because when you experience something in life that triggers that sense of danger, the amygdala (your emotional processing and threat detection centre) fires off and hijacks your brain.

The pre-frontal cortex is now not operating at it's full capacity because you're in survival mode and so you can't think clearly (this is when the weird shit usually starts happening).

You've got to train your pre-frontal cortex (the conscious and logical part of your brain) to be stronger.

You need to learn to be more present because when you're present, brain activity can stay in the rational part of your brain.

This doesn't mean you'll never get emotional, it means you'll be able to process your emotions in a healthy way.

It means you'll be able to calm down. It means you'll be able to think clearly. It means you'll be in control.
